More Than Clothes: One Year of Daintellect and Why This Brand Means So Much to Me
One year ago, on my birthday, I gave myself a gift I had been thinking about for years.
I launched Daintellect.
But the truth is, the story of Daintellect didn’t begin one year ago. The business did.
The vision began almost 20 years earlier.
I’ve loved fashion and style since I was a little girl. As I got older particularly in my 20s, I began finding and refining my own personal style. Working at Nordstrom during that time only deepened my love of fashion.
But I was becoming interested in something beyond beautiful clothes.
I was thinking about what they communicated.
My mother and grandmother taught me from childhood that personal image matters; that how you dress and carry yourself contribute to how you present yourself to the world.
Then, while working at Nordstrom, I purchased a book about image consulting. I began exploring the connection between personal style and personal image and realized that my interest wasn’t only in what someone was wearing.
I cared about the woman wearing it.
I wanted to explore image consulting as a business then, but life and other priorities intervened.
The vision didn’t disappear.
Almost 20 years later, it became Daintellect. 💗
What Does My Style Say About Me?
There’s a question at the heart of so much of what I believe:
What does my style say about me?
For me, personal style is a way to show the world who Maia is without ever opening my mouth.
My style has range. I love looking classic, glamorous, sophisticated and beautiful. I love femininity, color, prints and unexpected details. And occasionally I’ll come out in a hat and sneakers and my friends will jokingly call it a “down day.” 😂
But that’s me, too.
Having personal style doesn’t mean creating a uniform. It’s about recognizing the thread of you underneath everything you wear.
That’s where style and image meet.
Why I Created Daintellect
I created Daintellect because I want women to find, refine, understand and own their personal style through originality, personal preference and love of self.
You don’t have to dress according to what society says you should wear.
You don’t have to copy someone else’s aesthetic.
You don’t have to chase every trend.
Your style should reflect you.
That’s also why Daintellect is about more than simply putting together beautiful outfits. I want women to understand what their style communicates as part of their overall image.
I want them to ask:
What does my style say about me?
Look Pretty. Feel Great. Live Bold.
When I created Daintellect, I created a phrase that represents exactly what I want the brand to stand for:
Look Pretty. Feel Great. Live Bold.
Look Pretty. Not because clothing creates your beauty. Your beauty is already yours. Style can simply enhance and express it.
Feel Great. Your personal style should feel authentically you. When you look in the mirror, I want you to recognize yourself.
Live Bold. Own who you are, your choices and the spaces you enter.
And underneath all three is the message that has become even more meaningful during Year One:
Walk in your confidence.
To me, that means controlling how you show up and owning the spaces you’re in.
A woman’s style can communicate her confidence, but the clothes didn’t create it.
They helped her express it.
After working with Daintellect, I don’t simply want a woman to look in the mirror and think I love this outfit.
I want her to see her confidence and her true beauty.
The clothes simply enhance them both.
One Year Down. And We’re Just Getting Started.
Year One has been about building the foundation, perfecting the brand story, developing content and experiences, learning about the women I want to serve, and becoming clearer about the connection between personal style, confidence and overall image.
I’ve learned.
I’ve experimented.
I’ve refined.
And I’ve watched the vision become clearer.
Reaching one year doesn’t mean I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do.
It means I’ve accomplished the beginning stages of building a dream I’ve carried for almost two decades.
Year One was about building visibility, awareness and recognition.
Year Two will be about reflection, forward progress and positive growth; making meaningful connections, creating a strong marketing strategy with realistic deliverables, and continuing to build Daintellect into the confidence-building image consulting and personal style engine I know it can become.
Almost 20 years ago, I had an idea.
One year ago, I finally gave that idea a name.
Today, I’m celebrating how far it has come and everything I still believe it can become.
Another year of life. One full year of Daintellect. And I feel like both of us are just getting started. 💗
Look Pretty. Feel Great. Live Bold.
And always: Walk in your confidence.
